Tahitian pearls are very unique because of their dark natural colors. Many Tahitain "black" pearls are not actually black, but they are silver, grey or a charcoal color. The black lipped oyster produces Tahitian pearls, and is quite large, which many times results in a larger than average pearl. Truly black Tahitian pearls are very rare and often command a very high price.
