Saltwater pearls are either naturally occurring or cultured pearls that are cultivated in salt (saline) water. The three most common types of saltwater pearls are South Sea, Tahitian and Akoya pearls. Saltwater pearls are generally more round than freshwater, and they are also known as marine pearls.
